A question many people ask is what are the origins of the name. This is a very hard question to answer as the name is not exactly common, there are very few people researching it and most families it appears has a separate story as to how the family name originated, where we come from and how we got to where we are.

For those who don't know, the greatest concentration of the family name comes from Warwickshire in England (one of the reasons the title banner has Birmingham as it's background).

The family name just seems to appear towards the end of the 17th century in Midlands England. I personally have a theory, that the family name is Huguenot in origin. The time that the family appears is correct with the timeline of the Huguenot's moving to England. It appears that DAFFORN, DAFFERN are Englished versions of a French name Dauphin.
